Original Kurzfassung:
In the design of modern mill components investment costs, reliability and delivery times are decisive factors. VAI has introduced new development methods to ensure the best solution for specific customer requirements. Application of parametric design techniques reduces the required engineering hours and delivery times. A parameter list specifies the most important component data. Standard parts such as screws and bearings can be chosen from the relevant tables of these lists. The parameters are transferred to the geometrical model, which produces the basic design and detail drawings.
Special material tests are performed to obtain precise information on fatigue properties of the material, considering the manufacturing history and the operational boundary conditions of the component. A better knowledge of the material limits leads to design improvements. Over-sizing of components can be reduced, which consequently decreases the investment costs.
