The potentials of spectral sensitized photocatalytic reactions of main group metal complexes for the use, conversion and storage of solar energy have been studied by the example of antimony porphyrins. Photoreactions of Sb(III)/Sb(V) complexes were studied under varying conditions of wave length, solvent, pH, substrate concentration and oxygen content. Reaction products and reaction mechanisms were studied including electronic spectra and structure and dynamics of the molecules in the excited state. Coupled cyclic photoredox processes were composed and their efficiencies discussed. As model systems reaction cycles are described for solar photoassisted hydrogen peroxide production, for long wave sensitized photocatalytic detoxification of chlorinated hydrocarbons and for chemical storage of solar energy.
