Englische Kurzfassung:
This paper is motivated by an industrial project concerning the structural optimization of multilayer steel seals used in car engines. It is of practical interest to minimize the height of the seal or to minimize the
applied screw forces. The most important restrictions are pressure constraints in order to prevent gas from escaping and water from flowing out. It is the aim of this paper to develop algorithms and software to perform design
optimization for a multilayer steel seal efficiently. One of the major problems to overcome is that due to the structure of the seal a contact problem has to be solved, which causes severe computational problems in the
calculation of displacements and stresses. Therefore the original structure is replaced by a substitute model that has the same mechanical properties, but for which calculations can be performed stable and in less time. Numerical results are presented for two practically relevant optimization problems for multilayer steel seals.
