In dynamic and highly competitive markets firms need to master qualitative changes effectively and efficiently in order to survive, let alone grow successfully. Drawing on the resource based view and family business research and a longitudinal case study this paper provides insights into how entrepreneurs and managers exploit market potentials, master challenges, and integrate change throughout the organization simultaneously. The results suggest that the ability to act quickly, based on the division of labour and of responsibilities, a shared vision, mutual trust, and veto-power on fundamental issues might represent a dynamic capability which may lead to competitive advantages in dynamic environments. Family-governed firms appear to have advantages in this respect.
