There has always been an interest to analyze the movement of users on the internet. The continuing enhancement of web technologies opens up new possibilities for tracking, with many of these methods, being hard to notice and block. Based on the analysis of known tracking methods this thesis presents countermeasures to avoid them. Modern browsers already come with a number of settings that can be used against many forms of tracking. This can be enhanced additionally, by adding special anti-tracking add-ons or extensions. For this thesis a new chrome extension ?Privacy Extension? has been designed and implemented. It allows the user to define a set of rules, which block data elements that a website is trying to save locally (cookies). It can be extended to also block other tracking methods. To test the effectiveness of the available anti-tracking measures, ?Privacy Extension? has been compared to standard browsers and a number of popular add-ons/extensions.
