Original Kurzfassung:
This paper is about investigating the accuracy of today?s ?nite element magnetostatic analysis. Particularly, it focuses on the exactness of the obtained results when using the initial magnetization curve for soft magnetic materials. This approach is actually implemented in most of the available tools. At ?rst, to reduce model complexity and avoid considerable number of uncertainties in the setup, a simple measurement and veri?cation approach for one-dimensional material characterization is investigated. Subsequently, the impact of using the initial magnetization curve on performance evaluation of electric machine designs is observed. The analysis is done for an exemplary application focusing on a wide range in the torque/speed-map. Based on the ?ndings, a simple but effective early stage solution is introduced and evaluated. Results reveal that modeling accuracy can be signi?cantly improved with negligible additional computational effort and very little increase in modeling complexity.
