Investigation of Combined Electro-Magnetic Structure of Bearingless Motor and Magnetic Gear

A possible combination of a magnet gear and a high-speed bearingless motor has been investigated. The high-speed side is driven by magnetically suspended bearingless motor, which is integrated in the magnetic gear. The initial study has shown that, the eddy current loss increases at high speed due to the influence of harmonic flux. In order to improve the efficiency, several structures are proposed and compared with the sintered and bonded NdFeB permanent magnets. The proposed magnetic geared bearingless motor is formed to be compact light weighted, and high efficiency to the IE3 industrial motor with an output of 550W and 3,000rpm.
