Proposal of Magnetic Geared Motor with Bearingless High-Speed Rotor

Magnetic geared motors offer many advantages over mechanical gearboxes, such as reduced maintenance and intrinsic overload protection. However, in terms of durability, the limited lifetime of mechanical bearings holding the high-speed rotor is a main concern. In order to solve the problem, this paper proposes a magnetic geared motor with an additional set of three-phase winding to provide suspension magnetic force to the high-speed rotor. The basic structure and the operational principle are investigated and verified through finite element analysis.
