Temperature Management for a Model Predictive Controlled Extruder

A Temperature Management strategy for fast operating point changes and stabilization of operating points for industrial plastic production machines (extruders) is presented. The Temperature Management determines optimal temperature trajectories for an optimally transition from the heat up phase to the plastic production operating point. The Temperature Management is superimposed to a model predictive control concept, which regulates the temperatures of the extruder. The model predictive controller uses linear programming. The fast transition of the operating points is verified by measurements. This concept is independent of the used granulate and also of the used screw convey type.
