Matrix Cracking in Non-Symmetric Laminates under Combined Membrane and Flexural Loading

Fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) have become one of the main materials with structural role in lightweight applications. This talk presents the role of matrix cracking as a damage mode in fiber reinforced laminated composite materials. An analytical model addressing both the reduction in the materials properties (especially stiffness), and the matrix crack multiplication under external applied loading, is presented.
