Original Kurzfassung:
The Knör group has pioneered the novel field of light-driven homogeneous photocatalytic systems designed for modelling the reactions of natural biocatalysts (biomimetic and bio-inspired photocatalysis with artificial photoenzymes). A theoretical framework unifying the concepts of classical enzyme kinetics and photokinetics will be presented for the first time in this contribution. This will allow for a direct quantitative comparison of selectivity and efficiency criteria between natural enzymes and their photochemical model systems. It could already be shown that many artificial photoenzymes indeed perform even better than naturally evolved biocatalysts under identical mild reaction conditions.
