Original Kurzfassung:
The common industry practice to assess the structural behaviour regarding damage and lifetime is mostly prototype testing of parts and components under static or fatigue loading. However, the cost and time needed for testing can be significantly reduced and at the same time the performance of a structure can be increased through the use of simulation. A general procedure including validated concepts and methods is not yet available. First of all, the well understanding of all mentioned damage mechanisms and their influence and interaction with each other is crucial in order to achieve reasonable and accurate predictions. Second, investigations of the existing methods for progressive damage simulation have to be done in order to ensure that all significant influences and aspects of damage mechanisms are taken into account by the selected numerical simulation tool. Finally, the versatility, robustness and applicability of such method to complex composite structures has to be evaluated. The present work invetigates the possibility of using a new modeling concept for the simulation of progressive delamination in laminated composite considering the applicability to complex structures.
