This article presents experimental measurement results of scattered ultrasonic guided waves around a damage and continues a preliminary numerical study investigating artificial disturbances as damages. Using a local finite element model so-called wave damage interaction coefficients (WDICs) were simulated, which are compared to measurement results in the current study. For this purpose the out-of-plane wave motion around a damage is measured by a laser scanning vibrometer (LSV). The scattered waves generated by the damage are isolated by using measurements of the pristine and damaged case on the front and back side of the plate respectively. From these measured scattered waves the WDICs can be identified and directly compared to the numerical simulation results. The comparison shows strong similarities between the numerically simulated and experimentally identified scattering patterns.
