In the steel strip production, continuous casting isused to produce solid slabs from liquid steel for the subsequenthot and cold rolling process. The liquid steel is continuouslyfed into the casting mold by a submerged nozzle, which generatesturbulent jets in the mold. This flow situation is modeled andanalyzed in laboratory experiments using water or metals withlow melting temperatures, and in numerical flow simulations. Thegoal is to gain a better understanding of the casting processand to optimize the process parameters for a good quality of theproduced steel strip.
